Privacy Policy

Last updated: 28 September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how IndieRoastersItaly (“we”, “us”) collects and uses personal data when you visit indieroastersitaly.it (the “Site”). We process personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation 2016/679) and applicable Italian law.

1. Data controller

The data controller is IndieRoastersItaly, based in Italy. You can contact us about anything related to your personal data at info@indieroastersitaly.it.

2. What data we collect and why

Browsing data and analytics

When you visit the Site, our servers and tools automatically collect technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device, pages visited and time of visit. We use Google Analytics (provided by Google Ireland Ltd.) to understand how visitors use the Site and improve our content. Legal basis: your consent, where required, and our legitimate interest in keeping the Site secure and working.

Comments

When you leave a comment we collect the name, email address and (optionally) website you enter, the comment text, your IP address and browser user agent. This data is used to publish and moderate comments and to prevent spam. Your email address is never published. Comments may be checked by an anti-spam tool (Antispam Bee), which runs locally on our server and does not send data to third parties. If you have a Gravatar profile, an anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service (Automattic Inc.) to display your profile picture. Legal basis: performance of the service you request and our legitimate interest in preventing spam.

Log in with Google

You can choose to log in to comment using your Google account. If you do, Google shares with us your name, email address and profile picture, which we use only to create your commenter account on the Site. Before logging in you are asked to agree to this. We never receive your Google password. Legal basis: your consent.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address to send you our monthly updates (new articles, roaster stories, brewing guides and gear picks). The newsletter is managed through MailerLite (UAB MailerLite), which stores your email address on our behalf. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. Legal basis: your consent.

Comment notifications

If you subscribe to follow-up comments or replies, we use your email address only to notify you about new comments on that article. You can unsubscribe from each notification email.

3. Cookies

The Site uses technical cookies required for it to work (for example to remember that you are logged in or that you have already commented) and analytics cookies from Google Analytics. The Site shows advertising through Google AdSense, which uses cookies to show and measure ads; where required by law, these cookies are only set after you give your consent. You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings.

4. Affiliate links and advertising

Some articles may contain affiliate links in the future, including links to Amazon. If we join an affiliate program, such as the Amazon Associates program, we will say so on this page. If you click an affiliate link and buy a product, the retailer may use cookies to record that the purchase came from our Site. This does not change the price you pay. We do not receive any personal data about your purchase.

The Site may display advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can manage personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com. More information on how Google uses data is available at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the Site, who act as data processors on our behalf:

  • Our hosting provider, which stores the Site and its database;
  • Google (Analytics, Log in with Google and, in the future, AdSense);
  • MailerLite (newsletter);
  • Automattic / Gravatar (profile pictures in comments).

Some of these providers may transfer data outside the European Economic Area. In that case the transfer is protected by the safeguards required by the GDPR, such as the European Commission’s adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. How long we keep your data

  • Comments and their metadata: for as long as the comment is published on the Site;
  • Commenter accounts created with Google login: until you ask us to delete them;
  • Newsletter email address: until you unsubscribe;
  • Spam comments: automatically deleted after 7 days;
  • Analytics data: according to the retention settings of Google Analytics (maximum 14 months).

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, receive it in a portable format and withdraw your consent at any time (without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal). To exercise these rights, write to info@indieroastersitaly.it. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it).

8. Children

The Site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when we add new features or services to the Site. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
